Survey Data Collection Link

I still communicate with people that don’t know the Survey Data Collection Link is available in the Survey Menu. (It seems like it disappeared in 2007, or 2008, I truly can’t remember.)

Anyway, Here it is.

SURVEY MENU->SURVEY DATA COLLECTION LINK

For all those that aren’t familiar with this application, it opens in it’s own process, and Civil 3D can’t be accessed until you close it out. It looks like this. You can download from a data collector, process RAW data, create FBK files, and open and edit binary Coordinate files as well.

Once the application opens, navigate to the Convert file format, under the Conversions menu.

CONVERSIONS MENU->CONVERT FILE FORMAT

The Convert Dialog will appear with some simple options:

Essentially the nature of the file , Input File Type, and Name, and an Output File Type and Name.   You can define your own ASCII formats, and more.

Choose your Input File Type and Path. The same for the Output File. For our discussion today, I simply want to convert a TDS CR5 file, to an ASCII file.

 [*TIP*: CNTL+C copy the input path, and CNTL+V paste the path into the output. Rename the extension to TXT. Much faster than navigating the second file path.]

When complete with the selections, select Convert.

The application will confirm that the process did, or did not complete properly.  When completed, close the Survey Data Collection Link shell, and you will be returned to Civil 3D.

Nothing to it!

    • Juliette,
      Which version are you using?
      Has it ever worked in the past on the current installation?
